These units are not what users are used to seeing and it is very common to confuse them with MB / s (megabytes per second) . The catch is in the use of capital letters.
To get an idea of the differences between Mb / s and MB / s , we can say that 1Mb / s equals 0.125MB / s. For this reason, when you talk about a 100 Mb / s connection, you are actually referring to 100 Mb / s which is equivalent to 12.5 MB / s.
Knowing the above, we can already interpret the results of a speed test. Yet there is a third parameter, latency. We could define latency as the delay of an internet connection. This latency is affected by a multitude of parameters, for example the geographical distance between the data transmitter and receiver, where the greater the distance, the greater the latency.
Why do a speed test?
Unfortunately, it is very common for our operator to suffer some kind of mishap and we notice that our connection is slower than normal. In this situation, our first action should be to perform a speed test to verify that there are indeed connection problems.
Another reason to carry out a test of this type is to confirm that the speed of our connection corresponds to the contracted speed. In other words, to check that our operator is offering us the speed for which we pay.
