The ISOs that we have talked about so many times are actually a specific type of file that can be used for a multitude of tasks, as we will see below, since its utility is very extensive, but let’s see what these ISO files are really about.
To begin we will say that the ISO files or images , as they are also called, are files that are generated with the purpose of having inside them an exact copy of a certain file structure so that we can extract the same in those computers where we need to use it These are used for many types of work, because if for example we create an ISO file of the content of an optical unit, be it a CD , DVD or Bluray, the original file structure will be kept exactly so that we can use it in any another team.
That is why, for example, they are used to share on the Internet the new versions of operating systems such as Windows 10 or Linux distributions , since that way is like downloading the original optical drive that contains the system copy.
In this way what is avoided is that we lose the information or the original structure of the data when downloading the ISO from the Internet. At the same time it also allows us to transport in storage units such as USB devices or hard drives , large amounts of data in a single file that maintains a certain file structure if necessary for its correct use afterwards.
How to use ISO files in Windows 10
It should be noted that all the advantages that we have mentioned so far, we must add the ease of use that these files in particular present us, at least today, since it has not always been like this. We tell you this because only a few years ago, to open or mount an ISO on a Windows- based computer , we needed to get hold of third-party programs, but things have now changed substantially.
And is that to mount them, what we will need is to create a virtual unit in the operating system and then be able to extract the data contained in the file as such. Therefore, to achieve this goal we are talking about, the first thing we will do is access the ISO from the Windows 10 Explorer as if it were a conventional file, to then place ourselves on it and click with the secondary mouse button .
It will be then when Windows 10 itself, in the contextual menu that appears in the Explorer, will give us the opportunity, either to burn that ISO in an optical medium , or to mount it directly in a virtual unit that will be added to those already existing in our team. In this case and to be able to access the folder and file structure of the ISO, just click on “Mount” to create that new virtual unit and click on it to see the total content of the file.
